Rinse 1 cup of glutinous rice 2–3 times and soak for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Remove the wing tips, tail, and fatty neck parts of the chicken, then stuff with 5 whole garlic cloves and 4–5T of soaked glutinous rice.
Make slits on both inner thighs of the chicken and cross the legs to secure them.
Place the onion, green onion, 5 whole garlic cloves, and the remaining soaked glutinous rice in a broth pack.
Add 2.5L of water and the chicken to a pot. Once it starts boiling, skim off the impurities that rise to the top for 5 minutes.
Add the ssanghwatang, the glutinous rice broth pack, 0.5T salt, onion, green onion, and 5 whole garlic cloves, then cover and simmer on medium-low heat for 30 minutes.
